The Colsterworth Arts Festival
|It’s time for the 2012 Colsterworth Arts Festival.
I don’t dance – so for the first long weekend I volunteered at the Dance Festival. My music teacher, Mrs. Kerby, is the chairman of the Festival and last year she asked if I would like to help and I did a day of work and found it such fun that I ended up doing a few more.
So this year I signed up to help from Saturday until Tuesday doing all day every day. But then I realised I was doing the Medlink-vet course (more on that elsewhere) on Saturday so I started work at the festival from Sunday after my music lesson. It was great fun and apparently next year when I hope to do DofE this can count towards my Voluntary work. I did a range of jobs such as: throwing people on stage (not literally throwing); running the tapes and CDs from back stage to the tape/CD player; Door monitoring (preventing people from coming in during a performance); helping with the refreshments; Certificate sorting and the all important tea and coffee run.
After all that was over, it was my turn to perform at the Colsterworth Music Festival. I love my music and I entered 6 different classes:
- Grade 5 with “When Somebody Loved Me” (singing) and “Flood Time” (Piano)**
- Vocal Solo with “Panis Angelicus”
- Gilbert and Sullivan with “Love is a Plaintive Song” (from Patience)*
- Instrumental Solo with “Voi Che Sepate” (Clarinet) and “Andantino” (Piano)
- Two Skills with “Your Song” (the Ellie Goulding version) with me singing and accompanying myself on the piano and “Stick Together” (Clarinet)**
- Composition with my own piano and voice composition “I’m Happy on my Own”**
- (*=1st place **=1st place and a trophy)
I was thrilled with my results, 4 firsts and 3 trophies! All my results were published in the local paper, The Grantham Journal. My next hurdle is my grade 4 Clarinet exam, which is in a couple of weeks, then my grade 5 Piano and my grade 5 Theory.
After that I hope to get my grade 6 singing but that depends if I get my grade 5 theory. All of my exams are with the ABRSM and you can’t progress beyond grade 5 if you haven’t already got grade 5 Theory.
