French Exchange to Angers

It was my turn to go to France.

The picture above is the medieval castle at Angers.

I just got back from my school’s French exchange trip to Angers on the Loire River in North West France. It was great fun. We all stayed with French families, which was quite difficult because my French really wasn’t good enough and their English was probably worse than my French. It’s surprising though how much you can communicate without a common language!

We basically did stuff with our own school during the day and then went to our host families at night. With the school we looked round the town of Angers; we visited the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, where Eleanor of Aquitaine lived after the death of her husband Henry II. We also visited a historical theme park called Puy de Fou.

However, out of all the places we went to, I particularly enjoyed visiting Bioparc. This is a zoo which is in located in an old quarry which means the animals aren’t totally caged in which seems nicer for them.

The picture shows how the natural features of the quarry have been used to pen the animals. I think it’s brilliant. If you have to keep captive “wild” animals this must be the way to go.

Overall I really enjoyed my stay but I have to say I prefer English music and food!
