Chickens!
|We’ve bought some Chickens.
My parents finally gave into my little sister’s nagging! They’ve been out and bought 4 chickens.
The process started a few weeks ago when a flat-pack chicken house turned up. It took a while for my Dad to assemble the thing. There was a lot of muttering and words that we are not meant to say but amazingly the hen house is assembled. And we all pitched in and painted it a chicken friendly (?) blue colour!
The chickens are 2 ??, a ?? and a ?? and were originally confined to their house and the two little pens. The books suggested doing this for a couple of weeks to habituate them to home, before letting them out into the wider world. Our garden seems to be pretty chicken proof as they haven’t escaped onto the road yet. And they return to their hut every night when it gets dark.
We try and remember to shut them in at night, but hopefully we don’t get foxes in our garden as we don’t always remember.
They seem to be easy to look after – layers mash in a feeder that seems to last for almost a week before needing refilling and water in a cunning dispenser, that again lasts at least a week.
